Beads
Sort by:
Beads are one of the simplest ways to add weight to a fly, helping it reach the feeding zone more quickly while also creating an attractive trigger point. They're used on everything from nymphs and jig patterns to lures and streamers.
At Kindale Fly Fishing, we stock a wide range of fly tying beads in different sizes, colours and finishes to suit all styles of tying. From classic brass beads to slotted tungsten beads for jig hooks, every bead is chosen for its consistent size and quality finish.
Not all beads are made the same. A clean countersunk hole, consistent sizing and a smooth finish make tying easier and help your flies sit correctly on the hook. That's why we've chosen beads that we're happy to use ourselves.
If you're tying small river nymphs, heavy stillwater patterns or colourful attractor flies, you'll find the right bead for the job in our range.

What size fly tying bead should I use?
The right bead size depends on both the hook size and how heavily you want the fly to sink. As a general guide, smaller beads suit smaller hooks, while larger beads add more weight and are better suited to larger patterns. It's important to choose a bead that fits the hook properly. A bead that's too small may not sit correctly behind the eye, while one that's too large can affect the proportions of the fly. If you're unsure, feel free to get in touch and we'll be happy to recommend the best size for your pattern.
Do bead colours make a difference?
They can. Gold, silver and copper are classic choices, while fluorescent or coloured beads can act as an additional trigger point. Often it's worth carrying the same pattern with different bead colours to see what fish prefer on the day.
