Code: PHDSH/B
Our 2024 Sedge Hog pattern took the fly fishing world by storm, with incredible feedback on just how effective it was throughout the season. Due to high demand, we’ve tied a limited batch for this year – crafted predominantly with premium Kindale Fly Fishing materials.
The body is dubbed with our PHD Peacock Herl Dubbing – a standout synthetic blend that rivals, if not surpasses, the natural material in both appearance and performance. It adds unbeatable shimmer and natural movement in the water, making this fly irresistible to fish.
These flies are tied on barbed hooks, but we also stock a barbless version to suit fisheries and anglers who prefer a more fish-friendly approach.
How to Fish the Sedge Hog
The Sedge Hog is a deadly surface or sub-surface fly that excels during warm months, especially during sedge (caddis) hatches. Fish it:
- Pulled or twitched across the surface to create disturbance and attract aggressive takes.
- On a washing line setup, allowing it to ride high on the water with buzzers or nymphs below.
- Static or slow figure-of-eight retrieve, ideal in calmer conditions when trout are sipping sedges near the surface.
Barbed
This versatile fly shines from late spring through summer and into early autumn, especially on stillwaters and reservoirs when fish are feeding on adult sedge or searching for larger terrestrial prey
