Viva Blob - #10

The Viva Blob combines the classic black and fluorescent green Viva colour scheme with the unmistakable profile of a Blob. It is a brilliant pulling fly for stillwater trout and a particularly useful pattern when the fish are willing to chase.

Blob flies were developed on the UK reservoir competition scene and have now been catching trout for more than 30 years. Nobody can quite agree on what trout take them for—some believe they resemble a cluster of daphnia, while others see them purely as attractor flies—but there is no arguing with how effective they can be.

Fish the Viva Blob on a floating, intermediate or sinking fly line, depending on where the trout are feeding. It can be pulled quickly as part of a team, retrieved with short sharp strips or fished slowly on a floating line. It also works well on the point with nymphs or buzzers above it, where its bright green colouring helps draw fish towards the cast.

A dependable modern stillwater fly for rainbow trout, especially when you need something bold enough to provoke a response.
